Default Question about 400ex

Well this guy has a 400ex for 1300 talked him down to 900$ cause the rings in it are not that good... He has a set of rings but he doesn't no how to put them in.. Im going to buy it and then just send it to my friends and his did will do it for me.... For $100. Better then taking it down to a Shop for 300$ in labor.. Anyways what will it do if i run it with bad rings... He said it smokes blue when first started but it stops when running.... Will it not harm it that much but just eat my oil... and lose some power

It will burn more oil the more you use it. Blow up? Probably not, but you never know.
You might find upon tearing down the top end that it needs to be bored. If you get lucky it will need a hone and rings. Odds are it will need a bore and new bigger piston.

You might get away with just a set of ring. Or you might need to replace the piston. You wont know until its torn down.
