Default 04 400ex question

just got it, been riding for the past month now. when weather has been nice. anyway, yesterday I decided to change the oil. when I took filter out there was no spring. my question is, where can I get one ? and could I have done any damage running without it ? also the manual says 1.8 quarts, I put in 2 and still shows low. which is how I found out about the spring, reading articles here on how to change oil.

I dont have an answer for those questions officially.

But i would bet online has the spring or any off road warehouse will as well.

As for the 1.8 I believe it should be 1.8 per the manual. if you go and put to much oil a few things could happen it can burn off or some of the pressure in you engine may cause damage to some parts since there is to much oil and not enough air which causes unneeded pressure within the engine and possibly blow a seal. i would stick with 1.8 and if you change the oil filter you may need 1.85 but do what you think is best. im going to stick with the manual.

Keep me posted thanks

Those springs are $2.93 at DGY. Not sure what it does. Maybe just help remove the filter? Not sure. I'd get one if I were you though.
