Default Thinking About a 2002 Trx400ex

Hello everybody! I just joined the forum! I joined because I am getting a new ATV soon and I figured I may need some help. The ATV is a 2002 Honda TRX400ex (from craigslist) and it seems to be in pretty good condition. I was wondering what some common problems may be or if its worth it or anything like that. The guy also has a 2003 Kawasaki KFX400 for the same price but I think the carb needs to be rebuilt and the engine wont turn over so im just wondering which one would be better. Im leaning towards the Honda because I know they are reliable and it works! Haha. I know it may need a little work too. Heres the link ATV honda and kawasaki

The Honda is definately the better quad if it's in good shape. But what does he mean by "needs a little front end alignment"? I'd make sure it doesn't have a bent or broken frame. The only thing you might want that the Honda doesn't have is reverse gear. They didn't have reverse until later.

If it really is a minor front end alignment, then most people would do it before they sell it. I'd be suspicious of a bad wreck. If it's bent tie rods, no problem. And truthfully, everything up front can be replaced pretty easily. A arms, tie rods, shocks. But it's money. If the frame is bent beyond the front end, that could be trouble. $1000 is a good price though. But you can still negotiate if it needs minor work.

I know this may go in the Yamaha forum but what about this one? More $ but it seems to be in very good condition. I know Honda is a lot more reliable but isint Yamaha pretty good too? 2006 Yamaha Blaster (street legal in AZ)

Blasters are fine quads too, but not as good as the Honda 400. Tires look to be in really nice shape and that's important as they can be expensive. I am a huge DIY'er though and if it were me, I'd take the Honda if it were in good shape and fix it up myself. If you're a bit of a wrench turner, I'd go with the Honda. That's just my 2 cents.

Looked at the ad and they look clean, but that doesn't always mean much.

Here's where I get suspicious.

"im not a mechanic" But he had someone look at the kfx.

So how does he know what a little front end work is?
