450r Question
#1
I know you guys get these questions a lot but I never really found the right answer for me. Im looking at getting a 450r or 400ex. Is the 450r any good on trails and is their anyway to make it better since they like to rev all the time. How reliable are the 450r's? I mainly ride trails but I like to go to a couple tracks eventually so I dont know if a 400ex would cut it. Plus I do a lot of jumping at home and I want something that can take a jump better than what my warrior 350 did or would the ltz400 be better. Thanks

Comparing stock machines the r will be handling the jumps better. The stock front ex shocks are horrible. One of mine blew flat landing a 5' launch off the top of a hill jump. The r will be at home higher in the rpm range and on trails where you can ride fast, minimal rocks, mud, logs etc.
The ex is more of trail/ sport. It makes its power lower in the rpm range, lots of torque. The torque is what makes it such a great trail quad.
Keep in mind you can play with the gearing and cams for short $.

Stock width 450s make excellent trail quads with one caveat. You need to maintain a bit of speed to keep them from overheating. I am not talking about warp speed at all times, and of course you can putt through a short technical section no problem. The issue is going to be if you ride with a slower group out for a Sunday sightseeing tour or something. If you get one and just can't stand to work a clutch in the technical stuff, you can always put a Rekluse auto clutch on it, a heavier flywheel, or gear it down some.

Thanks for the advice. I really like the 450s but im really starting lean toward the ltz400, alot of people say its the best all around quad. Mainly cause some of the trails I go in are really tight and I like to make my own trails and go plowen through the woods sometimes.
