How do you all carry extra fuel on your machine. I have a Rancher and often find myself a decent ways from my truck so having some extra fuel on board would be nice. I have looked at the Old west Fuel Packs (nice but expensive), The Cajon Gas Tank - cool idea but think it would be crushed if I ever tip the quad over, currently trying to invest a better way to carry gas cans (don't want them mounted up high or behind the rear rack - don't want to raise the center of gravity much nor have them be used as a rear bumper.) Does anyone have any other ideas???
Thanks

I have one of those fuel packs. I like it. It keeps the center of gravity low but still carries 3.5 gallons. There are two problems with it though. 1. PRICE. Way too expensive. 2. Will rub your rack down to bear metal in no time. IF you get one place weatherstripping on your rack to avoid this problem.

I use one of those fuel packs. I know they are pretty expensive, but they seem to be worth it. They are very strong, and don't waste any rack space, because they can be stacked on.

Boots,

How thick is the flat fuel packs? Is it hard to get gas in & out of the fuel pack?

Its between 2-3" thick. Its easy to fill up but takes a couple of times to get use to filling your tank on your atv. I think the first time I got gas all over my tank. It has a nozzle that goes in the tank, so when you fill your atv you will get gas on your fingers. Also the velcro straps that come with it are crap. I use mini tie down straps to hold mine in place.

We use one of those enduro jugs. They mount to your handle bar or rack and hold a gallon of fuel if your reserve tank would ever run dry. They are about $15.

Do a search on Yahoo for "Old West Fuel Packs" and it will come up. I can't remember the site right off the top of my head but I know that will work.

I custom made my own fuel pack several years ago. I made it out of aluminum and sized it the same as my front rack. I foolishly let it go with the quad when I sold it back in 94 and have since been too lazy to make another. It was by no means DOT approved but it worked great. One of these days I will make another, but I have a few new ideas to incorporate into it. If you have the equipment it is relatively easy to do. If not, welding aluminum is usually expensive to have done.
