Our Recon always starts pretty well, just requires a little playing with the throttle and choke. Generally I like to feel the case warming a little before we take off. Never had shifting trouble though--maybe we're a little more patient? The Mobil 1 we use could also be a factor.

Mine is very cold natured when it comes to starting, but I have never noticed a problem with it having any trouble shifting. Often if the engine is too cold it will stall when I shift to 2nd but it never has any trouble making the shift.

I have the same issue with my 450S. If I don't let the bike warm up, it is hard to get into second. But it takes less than a minute to start shifting normally once I get it moving.
