i just installed a jet kit 4 my 400 ex. it said to turn the air /fuel screw clock ways all the way in then 3 turns out.is it true that when the screw is clockways all the way in it is at its richest setting?with the screw 3 turns out it spuddered on the low end,also leaked fuel out of over flow hose like a sive.i then turned the screw clockways all the way in and it stop leaking and ran like a champ.any answers would be greatly app????????????????????

That sounds very strange, Im running 3 turns out on my Recon and not having anything like you describe. It almost sounds like to could have turned the incorrect screw.

If you were bogging down when you started to give it gas then you were rich.

Are you sure you were turning the fuel screw and not the float bowl drain screw?

it sounds as if you turned the wrong screw its on the bottum of the carb and on the 400 carb if it is the stock one , turning it out richens it turning it in leans it on that particular carb it has a fuel mixture screw not a air mixture screw the way to tell is the mixture screw is on the intake side of the carb if it were on the air filter side of the carb it would be an air mixture screw three turns is a good start but you should still fine tune it for best performance for your particular bike.
