250EX in the dunes?
#4
She used to have a 300EX. It went everywhere at Glamis except for Olds hill. She's just wanting an auto clutch this time around. I'm hoping a 250EX will do just as good being it's lighter. Anybody else have an experience?

Sorry, I bought paddles for the 250 (5 paddle Skat-Trak Edges) but haven't had a chance to use them. I've ridden the bike in dunes with Holeshots on it (I'm heavy) and it does OK, so I'm predicting it will do well especially with a light rider. The Recon doesn't do too bad in the sand (stock tires), and it's 50 lbs. heavier. I wouldn't expect it to do as well as the 300 though.

We sold a 200sx to get a 250ex for my wife. She loves it as much as I do. We go to the dunes alot and it seams to be able to climb about as well as the 300ex. The seat to peg hieght is bigger on the 250ex than the 300. I enjoyed my 300ex but my wife won't touch a clutch when it comes to trails. The reverse setup is the same as it was on the 200sx(easy) compared to the 300ex. Honda really screwed up on the 300ex reverse design. The 250ex jumps well too, not front heavy at all. Let me know how paddles work on it.

sorry to be the one to tell you but the 250 ex doesn't do that will at the dunes.
My wife has an ex and she has 8 paddle haulers 11 inch wide . we tried my 8 haulers
10 inch wide and the 11's were better. there isn't much wheel speed from the 250
so they slowly dig in on a fairly steep hill. The wider tire helps not to dig in as fast.
There are lots of hills on the Oregon dunes she can't climb. I'm not talking about hill climbs
I mean just on the open dunes... The auto trans makes for shifting down a problem
by the time you push the shifter down you have lost the speed and you have to shift
down again or you shift down and the Rev limiter is there to be the pain that it is.
The rev limiter doesn't alow the engine to perform. I have been reading mods
on the 250 ex all night filtering through all the B-S about buy a 400ex stuff....I wish
someone would honestly talk about the Powroll mods for the 250 and cut through the
crap... My son's stock Blaster will eat the 250 up boxcar hill and thats not much a hill.
I guess you just can't beat the 2-stroke power.. On the lighter side if your wife is happy
just crusin the dunes and not into seeing what she can and can't climb or Drags she
will probably have an ok time on her 250 ex...
