I'm trying to decide weather to buy a new 300EX or a new Warrior, but I don't know which one to get. I have a friend with a 300EX and 2 friends with Warriors, and they don't know which is better overall. I'm planning on using the ATV for trail riding, not racing, of course. So if anyone has any info on which is better, please post!!!!! Thanks for any responses!!!!!

First of all, what's your size? If your 6ft tall or 200lbs or both, the 300EX is not for your. You would feel very cramped on it. But for me, 5'10, 160lbs. It's the perfect quad.
Next, what do you want to do with the quad? The EX is better at showing off and doing tricks such as wheelies, dounuts and jumps. But for drag racing, the Warrior would be a better choice.
On the trail, the two machines are very equal and neither one blows the other away.
If I was you, I would ask your friends if I could ride thier quads and make a decesion on which one "you" like best.

you need to supply a lot more info for anyone to give you a relevant reply..like height, weight, riding style: trails mean many different things to different people. To some it means putting along on Jeep roads, to others it means riding down rocky creek beds, & others such as myself it means tight 50" wide fast technicals with lots of 90 deg turns & long wide sweepers. So give us a few clues about your self & I'm sure you'll get more opinions than you ever wanted!

thanks hot_shoe_cv. i'm 5'10" 157 lbs. and plan on riding at a moderate pace on various types of trails(mainly one atv lane, fairly technical, woods, etc.) and do not want to be afraid of hitting descent jumps because of a bad suspension. Is the suspension good/bad and is it better/worse to the Warrior's?????

Big Rob,

Get the new 300EX. It is a bullet proof machine.

Better resale value, and more nimble. Just put better tires on it, and you will notice a huge difference.

I just sold my 98 warrior.. and got a 400ex. I ride with a guy who has a 99 300ex, and it's only 25 lbs. lighter but it feels like 100 lbs. lighter. Plus maintenence is easier to perform, such as air filter, chain tightening, changing light bulbs. The warrior is definately faster, but for your type of riding the 300 is my suggestion.

good luck.

The one thing that you have to consider when buying a Warrior is that the new 2000 model that is on the showroom today was actully designed 14 years ago. That's right, Yamaha has been making the same model for the last 14 years. The only changes made have been different plastic and stickers. The Warrior is a very nice machine. But the two valve motor is a bit outdated. And the air box configuration is a joke.
Top end, the Warrior is faster. But it has a six speed tranny and a few more cc's to it's credit. It is also a little bit larger for taller riders. Besides that, a 300EX beats it in every single catagory.
EX, lighter, better suspension, better motor, more reliable, easier to adjust chain and brakes.
Go with the EX.

Yes the Warrior design is 14 years old, but overall I would go with the Warrior. The 300 feels too small and the power is average.
