cr 500

Yeh, right. Try 85ish maybe 90. I use to ride a YZ 490 and rode with some CR 500's and they had a little more top end than mine plus a lower 1st gear which was helpful in the woods. With the right after market sprocket you could braek 100 but not stock. The thing about these open class bikes is their total lack of powerband. My bike was a 4 speed and I could just idle up to these long super steep hill climbs in 2nd gear which equaled 3rd in other bikes and punch it, up shift to 3rd on the way up which equaled 5th in other bikes and fly up. In track racing situations a 250 or even a 125 could keep up or win because of their more managable power but in open country, water, mud, hill climbs even the 250's feel like wimps. A open class bike is the ultimate off road vehicle bar none.

Where have you guys been getting your information 128?!? I ride with two guys that have a KX500 and a CR500. The KX is bone stock and does 87 and the CR is stock except for a FMF fatty pipe and silencer and that does around 95 and when it's topped out the front end likes to float. I've rode both, not to their full potential of course (i only weigh 160lbs) the guys i ride with weigh 230 and 300. Those are SICK, I dont think you could ever ask for any more power.
