Depends on what type of riding and how much wrenching you are comfortable with. Any sport 450 and larger will be a good bit faster. You can also go old school for a trx or lt 250r. Big bore like a Raptor or outlaw 525, ktm, etc.

The 450 are motocross 45hp motors and a lot faster then a 35hpEX. You can make a long list of atvs that are quicker then a 400ex in both utility and sport. Here is some.
700 Raptor
All 450 sports
500,650,800,1000 Outlander 4x4
570,800 Sportsman 4x4
Honda 700xx
700 Grizzly
and on and on....
Here is a 700 Raptor (Blue) Toying with a 400ex.

They have a stressed out motocross motor , they make 45hp out of only 450cc. You can get a 700 Raptor which also makes 45hp but its not under stress doing it and can make that power lazily.

What about raptor 660s?

You are trading handling for power. The good news is it is easier to get good handling from a 660 vs big power from your 400. If jumping or racing are in your future plans, go 450. Trail riding only, any will do.

Like I said before, you are trading handling for power. The 660 has twin carbs which can be a pain, all years have a weak one way that can break. They have a taller, "Ride on top" feel to them. A set of original YFZ450 front shocks do wonders for the suspension though. Extended arms and axle will cure a lot of what ails them imho. If you are looking to have more motor for cheap, a clean 660 could fit that bill.

Sorry for all the questions but thank you for answering, I'm going to need a new head gasket for my 400ex and I didn't know If I needed a specific one since it has a big bore kit or not or which one would be the best since it has that and a hot cam!
