Default 2000 Honda recon purchase

Grandson has got all he can out of his Chinese made Panther 110 so Im looking for something alittle larger, I found a 2000 recon that
looks great in the photos and says it runs and drives great. Guy has it for $1000, just wanted to know if there is any problems the old Recons had, or anything I need to look real close at.

I had one once, tough little machines. Is it a foot shift model? That would be preferred since I've heard so many problems with older ES Hondas.

Have seen a bunch of the older ones around here....say three or four of them....and every one of them smoked a little. Having said this, all could have been riden to death and not had the maintenance kept up well, oil, air filter and such. Just ensure you get the ATV up to operating temp ( and ensure oil is full )...and ride it for a bit to ensure there isn't any smoking.
