I'm looking to buy a three wheeler, mid 80's honda. Question is, what's the difference between the 250x, 250sx, 250r, and whatever 250's there are? Are the engines the sames? Is the hardware on the rest of the trike interchangeable with the others(axles, brakes, that sort of thing)? Are they all clutch? Any help would be great.

I ALSO TO WANTED TO GET A ATC. I GREW UP RIDING THESE MACHINES AND FIGURED I COULD GET ONE CHAEPER THAN A 4 WHEELER. WRONG. IF YOU WANT A NICE LOOKING ATC THAT RUNS GOOD, YOU ARE GOING YO HAVE TO PAY NAYWHERE FROM 1200.00 UP TO 2000.00. I DID SOME LOOKING AND THAT IS THE PRICE RANGE I FOUND THEM. ALSO IT DEPENDS ON WHAT KIND OF RIDING YOU ARE GOING TO DO. THEY ARE GREAT FUN POPPING WHEELIES AND RIDING IN THE SAND DUNES, BUT IF YOU WANT A ATV FOR TRAIL, MUD AND WATER RIDING 4 WHEELER IS THE WAY TO GO. I FOUND A 96 300 TRX FOR 750.00. IT RUNS LIKE A NEW ONE AND THE ONLY THING I DID TO IT WAS SERVICE IT AND REPLACE THE BEARINGS ON THE FRONT.. GOOD LUCK.

Where are you guy's lookin'? I live in Oregon and have found them for 300! They aren't water cooled, but it is an 83' with better suspension than the previous two years. Just pay attention to the nickle ads or your local classifieds. If you're patient they will come. Another piece of advice you are better off looking mostly in the winter, there are some good deals in the summer but not as many as in the winter.
As for the ATC's, the 250R is the only two stroke out of the bunch, and not they are not interchangable without modifications. The ATC's that you refered to I believe they are all clutches but am not sure about this. I think the 250SX is shaft drive too.

yeah, around the west ATC's are dirt cheap as I picked up a 200ES big red 5 years ago for $600 in mint condition and a 125M for $200 and am currently thinking about taking the nebors ATC90's that he wants to give me... hey tbass2 where do you live? Are you related to a Tina up on bornstead road? Im a minute away form the candy farm.

search the forums man.....especially the atc one

checkout the recent post by 250sx

......search those links of web pages which were posted

my 250sx is shaft drive, auto clutch.....shares similar motor(not exactly same) to the big red atc and the 250 atv (utlity).....the 250x is a atv built from 87 on (mine is a 92)

nothing atc about it

honda built a 200x and a 350x (i have one as well)....and a 250r......which i don't really know much about

....there are some nice atc's round, i have too.....i enjoy riding them, they see regular use, and offer exeptional value for $ (to me the value is the riding.....style....etc).....to me they are cheaper to run.....less wearing parts, but due to the age they do get tired......i am luck my 350x, is basically never been riden

honda did make a 250x trike. if you are going to get one, get a 85+ atc250r (which is a 2-stroke) or a atc 350x (which is a 4-stroke) expect to pay about 1,500 for a nice one. check ebay to get any ideas.
