I want more power for the local MX tracks. The mods I talked about earlier look good to me. Not too expensive, and not too radical. I'll might change things up later on if I really need it to be competitive with the bigger bores. But, these mods look like they give good power. Especially for the money. I won't have to run race gas with the JE 10.8:1 piston, or will I? Will the GT Thunder cam be the best overall for MX, and SX power? I don't want to lose much bottom end, but I'd like to gain mid and top. I thought I'd pick up some more low-end with the higher compression piston. Any suggestions? Also, Gabe, could you be a little more specific with the head work and everything, so I know exactly what to tell the shop when I have it done? Thanks a lot.

ANY other info that anyone can give is greatly appreciated.

$for$ get the W/Brothers 440 kit with their race cam and high comp. piston!!!!1
you dont need race gas like they say plus you can use stock rockers and stock springs. its pretty reliable too.this and your carb is the set up................

Are you running alcohol in the 465? Your son talked of this. I'm wanting to do a fcr39 or 41 alky to the 440. If so, what are you doing about flushing. I hate rust.

Do your self a favor and stick with a stock or slightly modified 400ex..let me tell you why i got a white bros 440 drove for while then bamm there goes the rod out of the case...so fine i get new cases and a hot rod "rod" with a 465 and other stuff what happens next i bend valves mess up cam chain ... so if you wanna drag race buy a banshee ... to me a 400ex is a ok quad i would take RAZOR13'S banshee any day of the week but i did all this work just to take my 400ex to the limits...If you want to go ahead ...

Good luck

In addition to my EX(which you can see my mods below) I also have an XR416 with an 11.0:1 piston, White Bros full exhaust W/Pro Meg, ported head, Edelbrock pumper carb and White Bros. all around cam. All I can tell you is the bike rocks. I intend to do the same mods to my EX when the motor gets tired. I have ridden 440's and were'nt impressed with the power delivery. They make good power but they don'nt seem to rev like my 416 does. Hope this helps-

LDJ,

I see you have the GT Thunder cam. Do you have to have hardfaced rockers or anything? Also, the mods you suggested above, what kind of power increase do you think I'd see with them?

Thanks a lot.

I have the web cam right now and the only thing I ahve done by GT Thunder is race porting and a valve job. I plan to switch to a GT Thunder cam by summer, because it looks like my web cam is wearing out? With the mods you listed, you will have a completly different bike. Huge mid range, if you gear it right you should be able to beat mosts Quads out there, I highly recommend that set up.
