i would get somthing with a manual clutch so he can ride any atv when he wants to

 

dont forget about the kawasaki mojave they are great, you could find one on sale for 3899 out the door probably, they have reverse are dependable but they are kickstart

 

6ft 160 to big to ride a 250 EX?? I dont think so, not everybody who rides once has to go out and get a bigger bike. Im 6'2 190 and I ride the 250 EX its not too small for me. To be honest in a couple years ill give it to the wife,and get a 300 or 400 but this bike is definately not to small and it will give the old 300 ex a run for its money(both stock that is). What im trying to say is I dont believe if you get this bike you will immediately have to get a bigger one, this bike should suit him just fine for a few years.

If you need racks and stuff, don't forget to consider the Recon. It's basically the same bike as the 250. All the bikes you mentioned are small for a 6 footer and 160 lbs. Our Blaster has been down for repairs as much as it's been on the trail! The Blaster is a pretty hot bike though. Our 250 has a few handling quirks, but you can work around them. I would save some more money and buy a BIGGER MACHINE, or get something cheap and used to hold him over.

 

i just wanted to add more to this.

My first ATV was an auto clutch 87 TRX250, like a recon. I got bored with the auto clutch so fast! a month i was bored. I just think you'll regret in 2 months when he is wanting more power and better handling....

 

bahnerman-Tell me about ATV riding around Moab. Is it legal to ride all the dirt roads and trails outside the National Parks?
