i am not positive about this but:

as long as the rider is around twelve and up they will out skill the ATV in about two years and then want a bigger one.

The 250ex is exactly the same height as my husbands 400ex. It doesn't have the same power, but is a nice quad. As for someone growing out of it in a few years after the age of twelve, I don't think so. It handles as nice as my 300ex, and is just as fast at the top end. There will be mods coming out for it soon. Already you can find the K&N airfilter, jet kit and outerwears for it. And I believe you can get a pipe for it too. I wouldn't buy it for a kid under 10, unless he was a big one. Or for a big adult, but for everyone else its great.

Tony,
I dont allways recommend going by the manufactures age/cc REQUIREMENTS.Im a ASI Safety Instructor and I MUST follow the recommended requirements in order to teach a class, however,in most States, once your kid finishes the 4hr ASI safety class,he/she can ride any cc 4 wheeler on the trails w/an adult and visual supervision.Check your LOCAL laws first. If you are buying a ATV above the manufactures age/cc requirements, dont tell the salesman you are buying it for your kid, they CANT legally sell it than.

If you follow the manufactures age/cc requirements, this is what you get,

6-11yrs of age?UNDER 70cc
12-15yrs of age?Not over 90cc
16-up?90cc and up.

What I run into alot is some 5'10 14yr old kid that weighs 180lbs and owns a 250cc ATV and I CANT legally instruct the ATV safety class to him/her because his/her 250cc ATV does not meet the MANUFACTURES age/cc requirements.I must instruct this kid on nothing larger than a 90cc.Ridicules!The kid and quad DONT fit each other.Instructors been arguing about this for yrs,but its an up hill battle with the manufactures and the CPSC [Consumer Product Safety Commission]Good Luck,

yeah i think some of the ages things are crap. if i were to ride a 80cc quad i would bottom out the suspention. When you turn 12 or 13 and youve been riding for a while you want to go fast. The 250ex is a nice machine. any one from 12 and up could probly handle it.
