I thought I would drop a note here about this weekends ride. I picked up a Garmin etreck Legend, and the handlebar mount. It fit perfect on the left side of the Rubucon handlebar. My wife and I set out into uncharted (for us) territory. We were in some foothills that took us up to aprox 4000 ft. We used the track back feature, and it got us back without getting lost. I had a III+ (garmin) but it wouldn't fit onto the handlebar without obstructing something. This one worked pretty good.

Glad to hear it worked good. I was just at a store looking at them. I want the Garmin eTrex Vista since it has mapping features.

Hope you didnt sell the garmin III+. I have a garmin III+ on my Rubicon, it fits fine. Get a Ram mount. You can find their site on the web. It kind of extends from the handle bars so it doesnt obstruct anything. They make the best mounts in the industry. That way you cant take back the new gps and save some cash

Beleive it or not I bought mine at Walmart. I wanted the Vista, but its hard to find. The Vista has 32mb and the Legend has 8. The mapping is the same. The Garmin site (www.garmin.com) has a great comparison chart. After playing with this one, I'm almost glad I saved the money.

FYI: Make sure you do the software update! Out of the box, I could zoom in to 120 feet. With the update, I can zoom to 20 feet. Helps when your on a trail.

I have pretty much decided on what Im buying. Its the Garmin etrax with power adapter and RAM handlebar mount. Only way I will change my mind is if I see the Garmin 12 and like it better. One question for you all. Have you seen the etrax display screen compared to the Garmin 12? I was wondering how much bigger it was if any at all.

I don't know if it was much larger but it looked much crisper and easier to see. Thats why I went with the Etrex over the G12. Plus the Etrex looked like it would survive on the trail better.

The Garmin GPS 12 has a lower pixel count (64x100) compared to the eTrex 160x288.
