well my rocker arms are toasted. The one has a groove cut in it about an 1/8 of an inch. And the cam is done too.

I still don't know what caused this. Were the stock arms just too soft? I was told by FST that i would have no trouble with it. My arms were like new! Less than 20 hours on them..

my timing was right on so i thought, i didn't here any clicking when i first put it together. It started after about an hour

 

That's what happened to my motor last year. During a HareScramble, it felt like the clutch was going bad. The motor was reving, but there was no power. I limped around the last half of a lap to finish the race. Later when I took apart the motor, my rocker arms and cam were trashed. I keep fresh oil in the engine and adjusted my valves on a regular basis. I just think that the aggressive aftermarket cams are to much for the stock rocker arms. Order some new rocker arms from Service Honda and send them out to be hardened. I believe an intake rocker is $35 bucks and a exhaust rocker is about $35 bucks also through Service Honda. Expect to pay around $200 or more for the hardening. For a cam....I have raced with a TC Racing(814-723-3514) and LRD. I like them both.

 

i ordered a web high rev cam, and hardened rockers for $257 for ritter cycle. He told me i'd have them monday or tuesday. So i think i got her fixed. Just have to get them in..

anyone have hints on removing the rocker arms?

I haven't heard many good things about FST. Curtis Sparks (or GThunder) says that the rocker (stock)arms are going to be the first thing to go.

 

Hey aaron, was the cam new?
If it was then i think it backs up what i said in the last post about changing just some of the stuff. The old stuff wears out the new stuff very fast because one is worn a certain way and the other isnt worn at all (the new one)....which tends to make then both wear.
It could also be that those rockers were defective from the start. Like you said they are like new, so maybe adding that power it made them go all together

 

ive got the same cam as you orderd, and Web Cam hardend my rockers also, i think they do an excellent job. The rockers are easy to remove, just turn the sloted end of the dowl rod with a flathead screw driver and after it turns about half way, just pound the rod out from the other side. I know thats easier said than done but try it out, it should work.

 

Last time i take advice from FST. Or deal with them altogether. The guy really needs to learn some customer relations. Don't they have college courses for that?!

Anyways. It does back up what you say. Old parts will wear out new. I know i should of went for all new parts, but money is always an issue in doing these things. And that 150 Bucks doesn't seem like a lot, but that helped me keep my project in my budget. In the long run it just costed me more down time and more money.

from the 3 hours i got on the motor, I love it! Runs better than any piped/ported 400ex i've ever rode.

It always has power. I am going to post a full review after i get 10 hour on the motor.
