I have a 1998 honda foreman 450s im having trouble getting started. I have spark... i have fuel... brand new OEM CDI box.. new regulator... new petcock with all new tubing and filter.. new carburator as well... tank has been cleaned out. Ive check and adjusted the valves to .006 . Ive read alot of posts and tried all senarios ive found. Am i missing something? im new to this but do have good mechanical knowledge. Any replies are appreciated.
Ive not done a compression test on it but it seems to have really good compression pushing fuel out of the spark plug hole. yes i am using dpr 7 spark plug. ive sprayed in the carb with no luck.. ive even taken carb off and sprayed with no luck. it will turn over an act like it almost wants to start but doesnt.. kinda like its out of time on a car motor.. ive adjusted the valves at TDC to .006 also ive checked all fuses and none are blown under seat behind battery.
If spraying fuel out of spark plug hole alot time means flooded with gas turn kill switch off with plug out turn over with starter until gas quit spraying out of cylinder then clean plug or replaced again[gas fouled] then turn kill switch back to on try to start engine with full throttle a few times see if it hits and starts if does then carb is flooding with fuel
Thx for the response...the fuel spraying out of carb only comes out about a few rotations on motor and quits. ill go get another plug tomorrow and put in it and see what happens. If it doesnt how likely would it be the timing chain jumping time.. theres been a couple times i hear a poof sound out of exhaust.. not sure what that means on a atv. ill repost tomorrow morning after i get home from work with new plug.
The valves seemed pretty close when i checked and then adjusted them. i didnt guage them initially.. but the .006 feeler guage wasnt real loose going in... I actually went today to o'reilys and got another spark plug and rented a compression check guage.. course the guage didnt have the correct size end on it to screw into spark plug hole.. so i need to research that some more to find out where to get one that fits.
papa hogg scoot... ive done the compression this morning after returning the other tester and getting one that has 12mm adapter for plug thread size... i took video of it but it wont let me post it saying the file is to large.. its only 12 secs long. non the less... the compression guage jumps to 15 on about 2nd revolution and stays there. i let the engine prolly turn over about 5-6 turns. Thoughts? as best ive read.. the compression should be in the 100-120 range?
The only history i know on it was it was my nephews and his kids were riding it and it died and he never could get it started again. Dont have any other info than that.
