Please help... used to work on honda at local honda shop years ago and now helping out friend and forget settings on 1985 185.... need valve settings and can't remember if ajust cam chain... is just loosen bolt while running or what....

help

Not sure of the valve settings. But I do not think that I would loosen or slacken the timing chain while the engine is running...the last thing you want to do is slip that chain and rip a tooth off the top or bottom. Metal in engine..bad.

 

Don't know about the 185 but the '84 ATC 200X required the you hook up a tach and with the engine running at a given RPM you loose a tension bolt on top of the engine case and then retighten. The timing has just been set. Don't know about the valve settings but I have a clymers' manual for the 200X and I believe it has the 185 in it as well. What 185 is it, a ATC 185S? There were a couple so let me know and I will dig out the manual and look up the info
