Please correct me if I am wrong, I'm just clarifing for myself. The larger the rear tire, the slower acceleration but the higher top speed. The smaller the rear tire the quicker the acceleration but the lower the top speed. This is w/o any gear changes of course. Am I correct by stating that?

Keyword: Almost. Look how much money you have put into it. Why not just get the 300ex and not do anything to it. It is less work to get the 300ex rather than get the 250ex and try to make it run faster than a 300ex. You may say you are saving money buying the 250ex and making it run as fast as a 300ex, but your not. If you look at all the things you have to put on it to stay beside one, you will have probably have spent more money. And whoever said the 300ex will only run 52mph, WRONG! Mine with no mods when I first got it hit 60 on a dirt. Around 65 on pavement. Get the 300ex, and try to make it faster than a 400ex...that is more likely to happen than a 250ex whooping a 300ex. The 250ex isn't mean't to go fast. All it is is a bigger recon engine with different plastic. Oh and by the way, I raced a 250ex one day and I didn't get out of 3rd gear because I didn't need to. The 250ex will never get off the line as quick as a 300ex. Thats that.

The 300 is no magic carpet ride, but its suspension is way better than the 250! Why mod up a bike that doesn't have the suspension to handle it?

Honda250EX-38.5 top speed for a recon? Where did u hear that? According to my GPS my 2001 will run 44.9 and thats before i ran out of room. Theres not much more on top from there though, i think maybe able to hit 46.

Recon Top Speed 38.5? No way. My 2001 will do 48.6 (measured by a Garmin GPS which is accurate to 0.1 mph) and I ride at about 8000ft elevation, which causes about a 25% reduction in horsepower. That 38 mph thing was posted on a Dirtwheels (I think) article where they used a radar gun. Either they had a dud of a Recon or a bad radar gun. I think the average Recon goes 46 +/- 2 mph. I'm not sure about the 250EX.

Dirtwheels had bad imformation then becuase it said that a recon only did 38.5 mph. That didn't sound right but I didn't think they would lie. My honda 250ex goes 52 mph. I guess 46 mph sounds right for a recon.

Just get a used 400EX for the same price as a new 300EX and not much more than a 250EX and you won't have to do anything for your goal.
