Is it possible to make a 400ex go 75-88 mph?????
#1
I was wondering if u can make a 400ex go between 75-88 mph.The reason I'm asking is because I'm having a hard time deciding on which quad to get either a 400ex,banshee,raptor,scrambler 400/500 2X4,or the ds650and also my friends I will be riding with have raptors and banshees. If u can make the 400ex go that fast then I would definately get it!!I need to know what mods I need to get to make it that fast like which pipe, bigborekit, cam size, carb size, porting, what should my gearing be(front tooth and rear tooth sprocket),tire size, what size a-arm and axle, shocks, etc!!If i left anything out please let me know!!
Thanks,
Dan
P.S.
Money is not an option. Also I don't want to lose reliability so I don't want to put a different engine in it!!!!

Of course it can be made to go that fast. What kind of riding do you intend on doing, maybe then we can suggest the appropriate quad for you.
If you are truly going with the 400 and need help with mods, I have some ideas for you as well....

Thanks for your info. The riding that I would be doing is medium-big size trails with lots of whoops and jumps.I will also be riding in sand dunes.I like the 400ex because of the handling, but I need it to go that fast because my friends have banshees and raptors. If u can't make it go that fast then what other machine can go that fast and is almost identical in the handling department. If you can make it go that fast can u please tell me what mods I have to get.
Thanks,
Dan

If anyone has any more info it would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!

quite a range 75-88. I would have to say not without major and very expensive mods, thousands and thouands of dollars. especially if 88 is the goal, they go what 65 stock? 23 mph more is allot to try to get out of any quad. Even 10 mph gain is huge. The cheap way though is to do what allot guys do lie about how fast there machine goes then make excuses when it won't even come close. not picking on Honda, people who own all brands do that.

TO get 90MPH all you need to do is get a front sprocket 3 teeth bigger and a rear sprocket 5 teeth smaller while cutting many links off the chain. Now your 1st gear would be what your current 2nd is so a pipe, bigborekit, cam size, carb size, porting, would be a must to get the thing up to speed
My old 88'XR600R hit 101MPH stock and when I made it street leagle I only dropped one tooth in the rear and added one in the front and it was able to cruse 120MPH all day long!

Raptor and DS650 are the fastest stock 4-strokes. I have not seen a Cannondale in action yet. From what I've witnessed on several accounts the DS650 edges the Raptor. There are more companies manufacturing mods for a Raptor than DS.
Stock Banshees will lose to stock Raptors and DS's. Throw a few mods on the Banshee and it will smoke all, that is if your're talking dragging.
Personally if I was to buy a all around new machine I'd buy the DS (black) because I like the size. If I wanted to dust all at the local riding area dragging, I'd buy a Banshee then mod it.
Like Gabe says, it's how smart you spend your money. I doubt anyone will disagree that dollar for dollar more power can be squeezed out of a 2-stroke than a 4-stroke, but plan on more maintenance.
To answer your question, yes it's possible to make a ex do 75-88 with mods, but you will lose the bottom. How often will you be doing 88?
