Who publishes a 400ex repair manual. I have been unable to find one from Clymer.

 

The one I've got appears to be published by Honda. I ordered it from the dealership where I bought the bike. I think it was around 40 bucks.

 

"Helm" is the name of the publisher for the offical Honda service manual. Do a search for Helm service manuals and you will find them. You can order direct for about $40 to your door. It's a nice service manual.

Does the service manual give good detail and step-by-step procedures?

 

The manual gives you alright info its mainly torque specs and settings for a dealer instead of ordering for $40 *ouch* i just went to a local shop where i get every single part and they let me barrow the book to photo copy it
