You my friend are living proof of those who are willing to pay more just to say they own a Honda, no matter how it performs.

 

You my friend have no idea what performance means.

 

After a little research, the Bayou 300 lists at 4,299. The Honda Rancher lists at 4,399. Congratualations on saving a hundred bucks.....although I would have paid the extra hundred for 50 more cc.

 

Thanks for the advice guys. No I would'nt adjust the idle on my own under any circumstances. I'll just live with it since the machine is fine in all other aspects. And what's this garbage about paying more $$ for a Honda? I'm not brand loyal but I don't see the Recon as being overpriced at all. Mine was brand new for $3150. Does anyone else make a more durable 250cc 2wd atv for that kind of money? In fact I'll say based on it's size/weight/cost/durability it's the best 2wd utility atv made for the 200-300cc engine class.

 

You forgot to mention that the Bayou 300 also comes with a limited-slip type differential that can also be locked so that both wheels have equal torque. When left in the open position it performs like your standard car differential, making it much easier to handle. And you also get an oil filter that can be easily replaced.

Now that was a pretty good debate between dways and springdrl. I dont want to choose sides but dways was right on the money. When my wife and I go riding I start my Rancher first and then I start the recon and give it a little throttle for 2-4 mins until it idles on its own. To this day I still have more fun on the Recon. But my wife wont let me drive it as much anymore. I just did the first tune up on both quads this weekend and have to say that I am still very impressed with honda and glad that I decided to purchase such a quality product.

 

HillHound--- It is the nature of the beast. There is no "fast" idle provision while choke is on. The carb just isn't equipped to "idle-up" when cold. I found it annoying too. It is just one of those little quirks you live with. I just bought one for my "squeeze", she loves it!! I paid $3100.00 out the door for mine in central Ohio.

Just keep in mind guys that my intent was to bring attention to Honda for producing a model that would not idle after a cold start. We all know that even the even the most simple lawn mower engines will idle after a cold start. It is very unusual for Honda to sell a product with such performance and if I owned one I would definitely let them hear about it. And I would also mention the absence of an oil filter on this model as well.

I have to say your point is well taken. Im sure they will adress this sometime in the future. Bye the way, I have a sister & brother inlaw that live in Spring TX. I am allways saying to them " Who the hell would ever want to live in Texas" jokingly. Its to f....n hot. Anyhow its nice to see two people debating in this forum without it getting out of hand.

I can live with the cold start due to it's performance and handling......the Recon was voted best in it's class.........need I say more.
