Anyone ride the 2 wheel variety?

I have ridden atv's all my life but lately I have been wanting to get a Honda XR250 for trail riding (4 stroke motorcycle). I think this would be the best of both worlds, a fun bike to ride and a strong quad to pull it out of the mud . Does anyone else on this forum ride dirtbikes?

I race/ride dirtbikes. I have a fully tricked out 00 KX 250. The older I get though, the more I am leaning towards sticking with four wheels. After having a knee ACL reconstruction and a wrist ligament reconstruction, those extra two wheels look like a safer bet.
An XR 250 is a great bike - not fast by any stretch, but a lot of fun in the woods.

You are right about the dirtbike review, Suzuki's DRZ was right behind it. I usually ride with a buddy that has a XR600 and I am on a 450ES...talk about laggin behind! When it comes to mud and water my foreman is the quad for the job but as far as handling and speed I am definitely out maneuvered. The only thing I am questioning is the size of the bike...considering I am 6'4" and weigh around 215 (sometimes 230 ) I wonder if 250cc is enough?

Along with my 300EX, I ride a '99 CR250R. Killer bike. Don't ride it much.....just to tool around with the bro. My bro rides a '01 CR250R. Actually, he races it. He does the arenacross. Usually here in Milwaukee, Madison, and Illinois. Talk about gettin air....puts most everyone to shame.....of course, not the pro-mx. I learned a lot from him and I am now trying to talk him into getting a quad. He says only if I get a 250R then he'll do the same.......figures huh!!! The 250R I was going to get fell through.....raw deal man.

Hello,
I have been riding dirt bikes in the mountains of Colorado and other places for 30 years or so, and have spent quite a bit of time on a 2000 model XR250. I don't know how much you weigh or how tall you are, but it will be a little small if you weigh much over 180 or are over about 6 feet tall. If you are used to bikes with power, the XR250 will feel very underpowered after first or second gear, but it is a great bike for tight, technical, trails, or for anything if you don't expect to be trying to go too fast. I always loved riding my friend's until the terrain opened up to where I could do more than about 20 mph.
Good luck,
Lorrin

I have a cr500 and a raptor. The raptor is more fun to ride in the woods trails that I usually ride on. You gotta love the acceleration of a cr500 though. You would probably like the xr400 better than the 250.

I have had 2 dirt bikes before my 4-wheelers and plan on getting an XR400 in the future. I will always have a 4-wheeler though. They are both very fun, just in different ways. Recently, I bought a 1979 TS 185 street/trail Suzuki dirt bike and am in the process of getting it on the road. It is in great shape, and I got a good deal on it. It will be kind of neat driving a 2-stroke bike around town!

Hi, I ride an old 200xr and am 220lbs and 6'. I have never raced but ridden for many years (20?) and think it does pretty good for a 4 stroke. Like on of the post said, its best power band is in the lower gears.
Just my 2-cents worth!
