I bet the 650 would be the best bet for all around riding. Great power, reliability and just user-friendly stuff. The 400EX is just too weak anymore.

Uhhhhhh, why does everyone want these dumb-a$$ 4-strokes. If you are going to build a quad make it fast as hell, handle awesome, and a 2-stroke. If you want a 650 then get a bombardier. If you want a 450, make your 400 a big bore. Sorry, I am just sick of the "4-stroke revolution"
Oh yeah, if you are going to do a conversion with a 4-stroke bike than make it a 250R with a KTM 520 in it, now that is something you don't see everyday. This is a quad I would build if I could afford it!! Even though it is a 4-stroke.

Hondas 450 4 stroke motor is getting stressed to much to produce its power? Honda is known for the most reliable motors in any market it enters. Honda company started as building race bikes. So how do you think the 450 motor is being stressed to produce its output? Its producing similar power as the YZ426, so this motor must be stressed to produce its power also. Maybe I jsut misread your answer, sorry if i did.
But I believe this new motor, the CRF450 is a very solid motor, but of course time will tell. But when was the last time honda came out with any motor that was not bulletproof.
