What would it take to get a 250R with an older style FMF pipe and silencer on it to do in the upper 80's, around 87 or 88MPH? A guy I know and will ride with soon said the 250R he just bought will go about this fast... However it doesn't have any boring or porting done or anything engine wise really. I know it has a different carb on it, but how likely is it that it will do in the upper 80's without any engine work?

One thing to note, your pipe is pretty much good for bottom-end only. Unfortunately, your not going to get much top-end performance with your current set-up. I wouldn't spend any money on hop-ups until you get a better pipe. At this point, that's where you'll get the most bang for your buck.

So your saying the FMF fatty is not a good all around pipe for the 250R? I'm need to buy a pipe for my R, and was gonna go with either the new FMF Fatty, the FMF SST, or the LRD Adjustable. I want power everywhere in the RPM's, so which would be my best pipe then?

top speed is mostly due to gearing and the top rpm of your motor. Sure, it might go that fast it he has some pretty tall gears in it.

Wrong bike for top speed. Sure it has a high top speed.
But where it shines is its torqey low end (for a 2 stroke).
and about the 80 mph my friend has a 185s that hits 70.
If you looking for a good pipe go with the trx5 from ESR (194$ bare metal and $209 chromed) If you looking for top end the Zeplin from ESR would be better.

Go with EST (Eddie Sanders Racing) he has 3 different pipes to choose from you probably should get the ESR trx5 pipe for best all around performance. If you are intersted let me know and I can save you $$ on just about any pipe you want FMF fatty, sst, rev etc... but I would go with ESR his pipes are nice and quality and performance is great. E-mail me at xtreme165@hotmail.com if intersted
