<< Hey heres an idea. Maybe a 300ex or 400ex OEM seat cover would fit without much problem. It would look the same I think. >>

That's a good idea, but don't the EX's say SPORTRAX, not FOURTRAX?

Good luck on the search for your seat. We have a place up here that has connections to a lot of old parts. I'm not sure about quads, but I know that they help complete old snowmobile resto's and they carry quad parts too. Check out www.alssnowmobile.com for the contact information and give them a call. They are great to deal with, and it might be worth a shot. Take care.

You wouldn't have to order it for a new model. You could get like a 95 300ex or 99 400ex so that it would say fourtrax instead of sportrax like the new ones.

Rocky,
It is nice to see you around. The bike was fairly nice; now, I have replaced everything with new original OEM parts. I have put thousands into it above the purchase price. When I get the seat replaced, it will in the same condition as the new 88 R I had way back in the Fall of 1987. I kinda feel like I have gone back in time.

Nice restore! How do you go about buying paint for the frame, I didn't look into this hard, but where do you find it? Is it automotive paint mixed to match the original color, or is it Honda paint? I don't know if you are going to have much luck with your seat cover, mine on my 99 400EX already looks like crap. Maybe you could buy the foam and pan if you need it, and have Ceet custom make you one. I think you might have to go with a knock off custom reproduction, and it might be cheaper than the 250 bucks. If you look around not many 250Rs are left stock. Just a thought.

BluByU, that is one sweet looking R. Probably the best I have ever seen. I would be afraid to ride that thing. I thought mine was looking pretty good but I obviously have a long ways yet to go after seeing yours.

I am in Springfield, by the way.

250X, the 86 and 87 R's had gold rims but the 88 and 89's had silver rims.

Regarding the factory paint, I did some checking and got the original Honda paint codes for the frame, A-Arms etc. I then talked to a restoration shop close to my home and they ordered special PPG paint and clearcoat (special, as in very pricey). I was very meticulous when it was painted. I retained all "decals" that were original on the frame; these were taped off, and the frame, A-Arms, and front bumper were bead blasted and cleaned before they were sprayed with the new PPG paint and clear. Now, the frame is in Brand New condition. There is no difference between this frame and a new one. I bought: all new engine case covers, skids, bushings, chain guard, original tool kit, sticker for the tool box cover, "small" Honda decal that goes on the back of the rear fenders, new dash, ignition, etc etc. None of these things appear in the pics of the bike you have seen. The seat and a couple of more things will put the finishing touches on the bike. If you think the bike in the pic is nice; I can honestly say it is 100X better now. I now feel "honored" to own such a bike. I ONLY ride it in my driveway and mowed yard. It NEVER touches rain, mud, gravel, long grass, wet grass etc. Call me cracy, but this bike is my "little" baby, and I will always keep it that way.
