$10 says Hi-Torque Publications knows SOMETHING about the new Honda(s)...
The latest copy of Dirt Wheels (several times) mentions upcoming "Spy Photos" and "rumors" of one or possibly two new Honda hi-perf/sport quads coming out by the end of this summer. Based on either the CR450R or XR650R motors (or both).
We all know Dirt Wheels' "Spy Photos" are probably supplied by the manufacturer to raise interest levels JUST before releasing a new model...
With Cannondale's big surprise release of 3 more new hi-perf ATV models, I wouldn't be too surprised to see the rest of the industry push whole-hog doing the same thing.
Damn. Waited a Loooooooong time for someone to make the 1st move(s).
First Honda in 1998 with the 400EX, now Cannondale with 4 hi-perf-specific quads....
WAKE UP KAWI & SUZI !!!

I think it is going to be the CRF450 engine in the chassis. Honda probably tested it along with it in a dirtbike. If I were chairman of Honda I would not follow the big bore war but I would speak softly and carry a big stick.

I agree, I think Dirt Wheels knows something too. They "anticipated" the 400EX for a year, didn't they? Well, if it is not this year, I would just about garuntee that there will be something in the 2003 lineup. I would love to see them come up with a new engine, like a 5 vavle 550cc thumper, stuffed in a 400ex frame with 1.5 more inches of suspension. Well see i guess.

it just seems to me that the XR650 engine (a discussion topic for over a year now on what people wanted) would be a pick to directly challenge the RAPTOR market. If it is very similar to the XR (or is the XR engine) the problem some would have, and I would say, is that it's more of a sport quad for trails that has a lot of cc's. And that's just my opinion. For the track it seems clear to me the 450 would be much better. Either way...I can't get a quad for quite a while...just no money now that my pa won't be paying it. (GOD I SHOULD'VE GOTTEN A JOB THIS SUMMER- I'M PATHETIC).
