Whats the difference between '86 and '88-'89 250R's?

Not to concerned with cosmetic things because I plan on putting '89 plastic on it anyway. I am wondering about chassis and handling differences and motor differences. Also do 250R's have five or six speed tranny's?? thanks for the info!!
