Bought my first quad last year after riding bikes all my life and now I'm hooked. I still have my XR600 but I'm thinking of trading it in on a 400ex. I was wondering if the 400's exhaust is made like the big XR's to where you can pull the baffel out of the exhaust? On my bike I just pull the exhaust baffel and air box snorkel, dropped in a "twin air" air filter and jetted it a couple sizes richer. Are the 400's exhaust made this way???????

yeah it is made so you can take out the baffle i tried it my self but it is a lot louder than stock youd be better off to just buy a after market slip on like a fmf, white bros. or even a super trapp

Cool, thanks for the reply. With the price of full exhaust systems being so high I thought that might be an option, but if its too loud I'll probably spring for a slip on type system that ues the stock head pipe.

Yes the Spark arrestor and quiet core are removable, but there are restrictions further up in the silencer that prevent the removal of the spark arrestor from making any difference in power at all. Basically by removing the spark arrestor, your bike only becomes louder.

I have pics and diagrams of the stock silencer on my website - check it out.

Be sure to click on the "Illustrations" link at the bottom for diagrams on exhaust flow thru the silencer body.

Yep, to go any further a little surgery is required.

So what pipe does everyone run on their 400? I know on the XR's alot of people like the Big Gun and Yoshi pipes. Are these brands good on the 400?

The WB e-series is probably one of the most popular 400EX pipes. Both the Big Gun and Yoshi pipes are also very popular. I've got a Curtis Sparks X-4. The ProCircuit T4 and WB R4 are very similar and both popular as well as a host of others...
