I looked into a set of 400EX a-arms and shocks to setup on my 300EX. I could not swing it because of the money. But, I came across a torn down 88'R. The shocks and a-arms are in tact and the guy is willing to let them go for $50. The a-arms and shocks look to be in decent shape and with a little work, they can most likely be restored. Also, the rear shock is there, but no swingarm. Will the a-arms, tie rods, and shock mount up with the 400EX-300EX conversion tower? Also, what would I need to do to mount up the rear shock? Thanks for the help guys and gals.

Did you relocate the shock mounts? If you did what did you do? I know the a-arm and tie rods will fit a stock 300ex. I'm not real clear on the 400ex-300ex conversion tower. I know there is a 250R shock mount kit that allows you to use 250R shocks and a-arm made by ATV Racing, but never hear of a 400ex-300ex kit. Also the rear shock will not fit, it is designed for a swingarm with linkage it's not the right length. If my memory is correct I think the front shocks on the 250R and 400EX are different sizes. Hope I answered your questions?

From what i understand, 250R and 400EX shocks and a-arms are exactly the same. Go to ATV Racing, they sell the kit. i've e-mailed them a coupe of times, and they say that the kit is very durable.

i'm thinking about doing this to my 250X

is there any way to do it?

Well guys guess what.I just tried to put my 86 R shock on my 97 300ex today. It didn't work. The top of the shock it so wide to fit in the frame and the shock is just way to long.

I acctaully had my 250r front shocks on my 300 for a while. It worked really well. But one of my welds broke on my cross brace and the whole setup bent.Today I tried to straighten it back out.I had to heat it up and when did I ruined the shock seals and oil went every where.

Also I have stock 86 R A-arms.I was going to put them on my ex today and they won't fit.The A-arm it self would fit.But the bushing sticks out to far.Can I use the ex's bushings?

I have done the 300EX-400EX/250R Front suspension conversion. I got the kit from atv racing. I did all the work myself (im pretty handy with a torch and welder though). We put 400EX Aarms and Ohlins 250R shocks on it. It worked awesome. The 250R shocks are an inch shorter than the 400EX shocks. It gave us a lower ride height, and it handles awesome.

ok i will explain everything as best as i can.

400ex a-arms and shocks are exactly the same! EXECPT FOR THE 86 ONES. They have a longer bushing. So you can cut the bushings down or use your 300ex ones.

You have to use a shock tower kit to use the shocks. I've heard tell of using 300ex shocks with 400ex/250R arms, but they would be really short, meaning soft suspension and a low quad.

The whole conversion is really simple, even using the ATV racing kit one. You have to remove your old shock tower and grind off all the welds. Carefully! Then weld the new one in, it has jigs and the brackets with it. I have pictures on my website http://www.envy.nu/xc330ex/arms.html it has a few pictures and some step by step instructions.

The 250R/400ex REAR shock will never work! They are a shocklinkage setup. If you want a better shock setup, you can get a 350X swingarm and shock. That will give you more travel and +1 swingarm.

If you have anymore questions, just e-mail me at aaronllmm@home.com

Thanks 94dgblaster.I have a question for U.Do still have your stock 300ex shocks? Please say U do.I reallly really need some.I broke both of my front one's and I ruined my stock R shocks yesterday. So if U have them will buy them.

Also My 300ex is stock except I will be putting a K&N filter and rejet.I was thinking of going up to a 124 or 126 main.Does this sound right. It will be a honda jet not a dynojet kit.

Thanks for the info 94dgblaster!
