KKK- a Pipe and clutch kit add alot of power to a sport. I really dont think u are going to take on on top end without some major modificatiosn like a 405 kit or whatever. Even if u save up the 2g's to do it, ur stock chasis isn't going to be able to handle the power. I would really be stupid to put 2 grand into your 250x. You'd proably be better of sellin the x and save up an additional 2 grand(the money u were orignal going to spend on mods0 and buy a faster what. Even if u put a stock 350x engine in the x you won't beat the sport.

#1 its not a sport its a SCAMBLER 400 4X4

#2 why does it make have so much more power with pipe ? , stock for stock i can keep up with it .

also a 400ex will beat it and some 330 kits will be 400exs so i really doubt i need $2000 or a 405 kit ! more like 330 kit with cam . I think that would beat it but im not 100% so im askin

A pipe will add a ton of power to a polaris two-stroke (such as the scam 4x4) because the stock pipe on it is very restrictive. The Clutch kit is just to adjust the CVT for the change in the powerband. The scram400 and the sport 400 (or 400L) are the same thing, only with 4 wheel drive. As for your question, I really think that you should save up for a 250r, or Banshee, so you get better suspension, and handling along with the extra power that you want.

To be honest, I don't think that a STOCK 400ex would beat a Piped and Clutched Scram or Sport 400. Maybe at top end depending on the pipe the Polaris is using.

If I were you and wanted something faster I'd get a Banshee, or 250r. A stock Banshee will take a Polaris with those mods from Mid-Range up through Top-End. It has been my experience that my Sport with those mods can beat a Banshee until about 40mph or so, but I have only raced one (I have raced him multiple times though). A lot of people disagree with that, so maybe the guy just can't drive (he has had several Banshee's since the early 90's).

Also, you have to stop and think that even if you can find the right ammount of mods to beat him for like $500-$1000, all he has to do is get is Ported and he'll be back ahead of you again ($200 for him).

I'm not saying that the 250x is a bad quad or anything, but it is a 4-stroke and it is deffinatly harder to find power out of them than it is a 2-stroke.

If you really want to beat him and save some money, just take him out into a trail in the woods with a lot of whoops and just out ride the guy. I'm sure the 250x is a lot easier to handle then the "over-weight" Scrambler.

We've had this conversation before. Stock vs. Stock a 400 Scrambler or Sport, 2x4 or 4x4 will beat a 250x in a straight line. Take off - Top End. Ask anyone.

Dude if your making $200 bucks a week thats plenty to mod a quad. If i were you I would be getting some front shocks since you say they bottom on bumps.

Save your money, sell the 250X and buy something thats relativly quick out of the box.
If you're racing a Scrambler 4X4, you can't compare it to a Sport 400L or a 2X4 Scrambler, as it's lighter and has less power loss through the grearcases.
Also, a properly set up CVT transfers a LOT more power than it's given credit for. If it was so inefficient, why would they use them in snowmobiles ( that are multi cylinder and make more than double the HP of a stock 400 ) and other equipment ? Kawasaki uses a CVT in the new Prairie 650 and the Mules, do you think that they're stupid? They use what works !!! The Prairie will drag a Rube or Foreman around all day.
I agree that the Scrambler could use a high protein diet to shed about 50 lbs.
Realize that simply because it has a sticker with a wing on it, doesn't make it the best quad.

Have you considered an lt250r (suzuki)? You kind find 88's in good shape around here for 1800 bucks.
