250r???

Hey Guys,
Stock for Stock a Banshee is faster than a 250r right? How about on low end? Also, how much work would have to be done to the R to get it faster than a STOCK Banshee? I'm talking straight line racing.
I searched to past posts for something on this, but there were so many topics that had the words "Banshee" and "250r" in them I would have to look all day. Thanks for the help.

Stock for stock. . .
Banshee=48hp, 250R=38
Banshee=380+lbs
250R=330lbs
Yes, the Shee is faster, but in stock form, the bottom-end is pretty lacking. The R is quicker off the line in a drag race, but will lose by the time you hit 3rd gear.
To make an R faster than a stock Shee; pipe/silencer combo, air box/filter, reeds, etc. But then, all a Shee has to do is add the same stuff and you're behind it again.
I have a mildly modded R and ride with Shee's in the dunes and stay with them with no problem EXCEPT on really long tall hill climbs; then they pull away. Now, the only way you can stay ahead of a Shee is when it comes to handling. . . .or. . . sink some serious bucks into the motor.

I have a modified 250R thats pushing the upper 40s in hp. I race (MX)a banshee that has Paul Turner Midrange Pipes, pyramid reeds and mild porting. It will eat my R for lunch. I know that the Banshee is far from stock, but my point is, you have to modify an R heavily to beat a Banshee, especially in drag racing. On low end a stock banshee is seriously lacking, but with a few well selected mods, a Banshee can rock an R pretty well.

No kidding? I was thinking about getting an "r" because I want something to hit the sand pits with and stuff like that, BUT I also need something that has a lot of straight line get up and go too. The next quad I get needs to be easily capable of beating a stock Banshee on top end as well. Looks like, I might just have to get a Banshee then. My friend has one, so I wanted something different. Thanks guys.

I mildly modified 250R will eat a stock banshee on top end. By this I mean pipe, silenecer, reeds and filter. Get your R ported by a GOOD shop and your R will kill its fair share of Banshees. Keep in mind the old saying 'no matter how fast you are, there will always be someone else faster'
the R is a great all around bike, and from the sound of it, you don't just dune, so I would have to say get an R and enjoy the great handling.

I have an 86 trx250r that is ported,FMF gold series fatty pipe,power core 2 silencer,wiseco .020 piston,Uni filter and rejeted.I am running stock gearing.
In a straight line race I can beat piped banshee's by 3 bikes.The traction was basicly equal.But ported one's run off and leave me.
The fastest bike I have ever saw Was LRD 370 long rod shee.My dad had a 87 qaudzilla that was bored .080,wiseco piston,ported,FMF ram valve,Fmf fatty pipe,power core 2 silencer,uni filter.This bike was crazy fast.It could beat my bike by 10 bikes everytime.But this shee ran off and left it.I mean it didn't matter what kind of start the shee was gone.Even though the shee had paddles and my dad didn't I don't think it mattered.That thing was just awesome.
And if You are just playin around I am sure the shee is a great bike.But I prefer my R.It is still plenty fast(pulls the front tires up in 4th gear)And Handles awesome.Yes I Have moded the suspension.But even when it was stock it was awesome.
For me there is no better bike.Than a trx250R

if you want to beat stock banshee u can try removing air box lid and get kand n filter. after market pipe and some reeds. these are common mods. also get a cr250 head gasket which will let u up your compression so u can use higher octane fuel. just porting alone will be better than all above mentioned.
