Now Confused on What to Buy!
#1
I have about $3000 to spend and i'm willing to finance. Originally I was going to buy a Blaster outright and then I started thinking about maybe financing a 400EX and then I went to the dealer today and he tried to talk me into a Warrior or a 300EX. I started reading about all of them on here in the archives and there is always someone who makes a good case for every quad...even the Mojave. I'm so confused now...I don't know what to get. I'll probably be doing a fair amount of trail riding, but there is a small private MX track nearby that i'll be riding on occasionly...probably no formal racing though. I'm about 5'10" and 170lbs. Now I guess i'm leaning towards the 300EX but it would be nice to not have to finanace (Blaster). Should I look into getting something used instead? Regardless, I don't think anything I get is going to match with my riding clothes (orange/black)...hehe. Any advice?

DaveRITBaja,
There sure isn't anything wrong with the Blaster. My nephew had one for two trouble free riding seasons. For the money you can't beat it. It will easily keep up and on the straights will pass a 300ex because of it being a quick revving two stroke. If this is your first ATV its not a bad choice. But for your size it might be small. You are taller than my nephew but the weight was about the same. I would rather not be tied down with a loan on an ATV because of it being a depreciating asset. If you can wait save your money up and purchase 400ex because you will probably be happier in the long run. I would not purchase used unless you find a cherry one that was ridden down the road a couple of times. Also, I had a 300ex for two years and was pleased with it but I think for the extra money that the 400EX costs its worth it. Chet

Dave, I've owned both EX's and have ridden the Warrior, but not a Blaster. Have you sat on a 300EX yet? I would think that it would be a liitle cramped for you, and the Blaster is even smaller. Also, while the 300EX is darn near bullet proof, it's pretty slow and has very limited suspension travel which makes it kind of scary on the whoops or doubles. You might try taking a look at used ATC250R's. You can get a really nice one for 2k and have enough money left over for a new flat bed trailer or soame realy nice MX gear.

Dude , what are you talking about limited suspension scary in woops ? maybe your not use to it or dont know how to ride it. pretty slow ? I think your too use to your big tank ds650.

i would say get a 400ex because if your gonna hit jumps and you weigh 170 the stock blaster warrior or 300ex isn' gonna stand up to well. Also I would NEVER get a blaster if i were you when i was 5'4" and weighed 110 i was cramped as hell on the blaster. Also i wouldnt recomend a tricycle

You need to ask your some questions. Do you want reverse; is it mandatory? Are you too big for a Blaster or small for a Warrior? If you are mostly on trails any of the machines except the Blaster is a decent machine. For MX and more power the 400EX is the only answer.
Also, have you considered taking out a personal loan and buying a used machine; that way you don't have to finance so much.
Frankly, the Blasters are cheap and built cheap too. Poor suspension, brakes, small short narrow. Also, go with a 4 stroke as 2 strokes aren't the best trail machines although the Blaster does OK in the low-end torque department for a 2 stroke.
I would say a Warrior or 400ex would both fit you well depending on how much performance you want (you always want more). Or you could go nuts and get a Banshee. Yee Ha!!!

KKK, no need to get butt hurt over it. I wasn't attacking you, or other 300EX riders personally. In case you missed it, I've owned both the 400 & 300 EX and still have the 300, which is my wifes bike. If you think you have a long travel suspension on that thing, more power too you. Not that you need any more power in that awesome 18hp mill.
