Just traded for a new rubi today and was not given the owners manual so I have a few questions.
1. What level on the dipstick do you use for checking oil? It seems that there is a low one and another much nearer the handle---neither is marked.
2. Can someone tell me the difference between D1 and d2?
3. What is recc. brake in procedure?

 

The low mark is to start with,you let it run for 5 mins,then check the level,it should be between the two higher marks.D1 is low,D2 is high.

 

Hotbike-
This is probably a dumb question, but did you happen to look under your seat? I don't know if the Ruby has it or not, but I didn't think we had one of our 'Cats owner manuals either, till I took off the seat to clean the air filter. Low and behold, there it was, tucked away inside a little compartment on the underside of the seat itself, sealed up in a plastic bag. AC has this "pocket" specifically for holding the atv manual or other related info so it is on your quad at all times-the Ruby may have the same, or similar type of deal, which is where your manual MIGHT be hiding.

If not, I'd get back to the dealer asap and have him get you the right manual. It's not totally necessary to have, just nice when you need it for little things. Also nice to write the scheduled maintenance in the back of as well-things like oil changes or intervals, air filter cleanings, plug checks/readings/changes, etc.

Not to be ungrateful but I do know how to read a dipstick. The dipstick I am refering to has a flat spot just above the bottom and another one about six inches further up. Neither is marked with a high or low mark. I would like to know which one should be used. You would have to own a Rubi or have worked on one to know. No insults needed. I have been a Master Mechanic for years.

 

This comes right from the Rubicon manual:

1. Oil Level: The oil should be checked after running the engine for 5 minutes. PRIOR to running the engine, make sure that the cold oil level is at least at the bottom of the lowest level. After running the engine for a few minutes, the oil level should be somewhere between the upper and lower mark on the level near the handle. Page 118 of the manual says "The oil level should be between the upper level mark and the lower level mark on the dipstick." Nothing more specific!
2. Page 36 of the manual states:
D1 mode: Use this mode for maximum performance.
D2 mode: Use this mode for maximum torque (such as carrying cargo or towing a trailer.)
3. The prefix of the manual only recommends avoiding full throttle starts and rapid acceleration during the first operating day or 15 miles.

Look in the rear storage compartment and the owner's manual should be in a zip loc bag strapped to the top of the compartment by a rubber strap, at least that's where mine is in my Rancher.
