I'm a junior this year, and I feel the same way you do. I know everybody and their dog wants to test ride new quads.. But, lets get real "fellaz", that ain't happenin. Have you ever thought about Devry, UTI, ITT Tech? UTIT has a GREAT motorcycle program. A spokesman from UTI comes every year to speak to our Pro-Ag-Mechanics class. I have been lucky enough to sit through it every time. If you love things with a motor, and wheels, I think you would enjoy going to UTI. UTI stands for Universal Technical Institude.. by the way. I just went into my bedroom and got out an info booklet. A sub-division of UTI, called MMI(motorcycle mechanics institute) has been endorsed and supported by Harley Davidston, American Honda, American Suzuki, Yamaha, and Kawasaki. You can choose a Motorcycle Technician Program, which consists of 45 weeks, 1125 clock hours, and 36 credit hours, a Harley Davidson course(same times), a honda course(12 weeks, 300 hours, 10.0 credit hours)(maybe that's why they're so underpowered) A Yamaha program, which is 6 weeks, 150 clock hours, and 5 credit hours, a Suzuki program(same times), and a Kawi program.
Along with the motorcycle division, they offer classes for EVERY kind of motor made. From big trucks, to collision repair and body, they offer it all. If you would like, I will scan this book sometime and send it your way.

205x i say go for what you want to do,go to a tech school to get the basics, once you get started and get some experience the field is yours.i've been a mechanic for 20 yrs and have enjoyed it for the most part but i've learned that once you have a basic understanding of how engines work they are pretty much the same.also do it while your young don't put it off because tme will slip by then things start going on(kids, wife, and so on)that will cause you to hold offand postpone.go for it

I hate to say it and I am not trying to start a flame, but right now you may think these would be cool jobs to have but when you decide to get married, buy a house, have kids, a couple toys, etc... You realize it's more important to be in a career field that you can make some decent money. There are paths in these fields that lead to higher pay but the chances are less in my opinion than a lot of other fields. If you truly want to persue a career in ATVs you need to plan to be at manager/director level and take the appropriate courses for that; you will not get those skills at a technical school.

You need to own your own business! Goto these tech schools and learn about engines and how to make them go fast. Then take a business cours and open up your own dealership or open up a atv parts store and and sell services like high performance tricks and charge for labor. You can charge like $60 per hour but only pay a high school kid $8 an hour. PROFIT!!!
