300ex MX question

Get some Turf Tamers like was said earlier, they work better if you groove them, but they dont last as long. I personally prefer the 18X9X8 ones, but thats just me, and I think that they work better on a 2-stroke, wider is probably better on a 4.
Anyway, I second the beadlock thing, they are expensive (from Rocky Mountain ATV add 200 bucks to the price of turf's on .125's) but DEFINATELY worth it. When I was running the tamers on regular 190's on my 300ex I tore them off the bead twice before I got beadlocks. You will wish you had them if you race seriously at all.
You don't need them up front probably, just in rear.
Also, dont forget to regear slightly higher as you will lose top end speed with the small tires.

I am looking at getting some race tires also, and was torn between 9.5" wide and 11" wide Tamers. What exactly are the advantages to each? It looks to me like wider is better but I see both styles at the races so I don't know.
Also, I wasn't going to get beadlocks. I have never broke the bead on my 20" Razrs on stock tires, will these Tamers somehow be more prone to popping off the bead if I am racing?
They will be going on a highly modded 250R that runs primarily on hardpack tracks.
Thanks!

With the wider tires, you get a little better stance I guess, but with the narrower ones, you get more bite with a 2-stroke. The narrower ones will dig in a little quicker and hook up better in most conditions. However, on real hardpack tracks, the wider ones are better as you have more surface on the ground for gripping on the slicker hard pack. My track is pretty loamy and so I like the narrower ones, but I have a set of both actually. The wide ones arent on beadlocks, so I dont run them as much.
As far as beadlocks go, the turf-tamers are pretty soft, so may be more prone to popping off the beads, but thats not the major thing. When MXing real hard, you power around corners and that puts alot of stress on your tires and the bead. Especially when running real low airpressure like most serious MX setups do the tire will want to roll over, which will pull it off the bead. Also, if you happen to get a flat, the tire wont come off the rim with beadlocks and you can still ride on it. However, for a weekend MXer, I wouldnt suggest ruining a rim running on a flat tire, its not worth a $150 or more rim for me to finish a local race!

Thanks Rhino99,
That is the kind of info I have been looking for. I love it when this forum works like it is supposed to and you actually get some useful info out of it.
Sounds like I had better go ahead and ante up the extra $$$ and get the beadlocks. I think I will also go with the 9.5's even though my track is pretty hard most of the time.
