Never even watched an avt pull. Had a few questions:
1. What technique can I use to win?
2. My atv supposedly can pull 1300 pounds, how much do I strap on the front so I can steer?
3. Should I air up the rear tires, if so how much?
4. Should I air up the fronts, if so how much?
5. How hard should I hit it off the line?
6. Do they strap the load to my hitch?
7. How should I put weight on the front?
8. What else do I need to know to win this thing?

1 if it wheelies or the front looses traction DO NOT LET OFF JUST LEAN FORWARD ! the second you let off your done!
2 It depends on much much weight you will be pulling , usually they dont wheelie if when they hook to the hitch , atleast not in the puls I have ben in.
3 NO you should take air out of the tires to increase traction

7 Strap it on the front rack
8 If your pulling with your prarie 650 make sure you hold in the lever to keep your differential locked , this will really help out alot. ALso dont steer you will just loose momentum unless you are really slowing down alot then you should turn the wheels side to side as fast as you can back and fourth to help the front tires find traction.

 

I thought about putting a few more pounds of air in the back tires to handle the extra load. Is that what people are doing? Thanks.

 

i wouldn't recomend that I would let air OUT.

 

A friend of mine used his Schools ATV in a pull this past spring. It was only a Polaris Xplorer 300 4x4.

There were four classes that you could pull in...2 wheel drive light, 2 wheel drive heavy, 4 wheel drive light, and 4 wheel drive heavy. The weight limits for the classes were 900lbs. for light, and 1300lbs. for the heavy. Obviously by those numbers, they allowed people to use sand bags and such to weigh the quads down. There was also no limit as to the mods, or tires on the quads. My friend loaded up the back of the Xplorer to bring it to a whopping 890lbs. He entered both the 2 wheel drive light, and 4 wheel drive light classes. Everybody lined up before the event started and he got a ton of jokes and laughs because he was on a little 300 competing with 600 grizzly's and 500 arctic cats. Anyway, he took all the jokes and shoved them right back in there faces when he got second place in the two wheel drive class. Remember, he is pulling againts quads twice his size! The only guy that beat him was a brand new Sportsman H.O. . He didn't do quite as good in the 4x4 class, but he still took 5th which isn't bad.

I don't know too much about the proper setup, but he did absolutely nothing to that little quad besides weighting it down. He was friends with the guy on the 600 Grizz, and the guy on the Grizz wasn't very pleased that he outpulled him.

The Polaris was bone stock, with stock worn down tires. The Grizz had 27" Vamps, and an aftermarket pipe. So I guess that means bigger isn't always better.

I know that I wasn't much help here, but I just thought that I'd share the story with ya. The moral of it is to make sure that you can get all of the power you got to the ground.

I'm probably not the one you knew. This annual pull is at Sundown Stables (810)752-pony. It's tomorrow only. Arrive at 6:00 pm.
It's about 15 minutes north of clinton twp.
I've never attended a pull before so I know nothing else. If you go, let me know and I'll come up and check it out. Let me know. We'll put my engine in your quad and have 1000 CC's. On the regular tractor pulls they run multiple engines right, haha.
