I have a 400EX and was wanting to get a dune quad for my wife....but i don't want to spend $6000 and I don't think I want a 2 stroke. How does a 300EX do in the sand?? Aren't they about $4700?? Since it will be my wife driving it, it doesn't need to be too quick, just able to get up and go OK in the dunes. I've never driven one (300EX) so any input would be appreciated. Thanks, Drew

I've only rode my friends' 300Ex's on the trails but when I was at the dunes there were some 300EX's there. I didn't talk to any of the owners but they seemed to be doing just fine as far as I could tell.
They might not have a ton of power but I think their light weight keeps them on top of the sand pretty good.

I have never takin mine to the dunes. They aren't the fastest top end either. But they would get around. What might be best is a Scrambler or Sport 400. They are very easy to drive since they are automatic. And if you want a 4 stroke maybe the Scrambler 500.

My best friend has a 300ex and at the time, he had a White Bros E series pipe. He also had Razrs all the way around. He had no problem going anywhere at Little Sahara in OK. during our vacation. We would have liked to have tried paddles on our quads, but we were there in the off season.

Hello out there,
I have a slightly modified '98 300ex.
It has dune tires for when I go to Pismo
K&N air filter, jet kit and a White Bros.
E-Series Pipe. I've gone to Pismo twice
and brought my camcorder both times and have much footage of my friend and I getting
air and sliding and just having a blast on
my 300ex. He has a 250x. It doesn't have the power of a 400ex but for a wife's application it's perfect. Very easy to handle. After a year and a half I'm giving
mine to the wife to buy a Banshee. But,
If you have the money the 400ex is a far superior bike for the lady but the 300ex is
thumbs up. $4799.00. It will climb any hill at Pismo and you can go anywhere. As a matter of fact the first time I took it there was with my shredders and it worked with those.
Hope this helps.

I have a 97 300 EX and ride the Mtns, and the sand at Little Shara, UT. I have no problem in the sand. Most of the people I ride with have Banshees. I have no problem keeping up with them. The point is that the 300 EX will run in the sand and does well. The other thing, its never had a problem. I have ridden with some polaris and thay have had problem due to the weight of the machine.

Get the wife the 300. Thats all she'll need. Forget about the Polaris or anything like that - they are too heavy. THe 300 is light and quick for its size. Had one with paddles out in Glamis for 2 years - good extremely reliable - can get it used - better deal.
can get a 98 for about 3900 if you look - or maybe a 00 - for about 4700 out the door.
400 is great - but wifes love the 300. Best bike in its class by far (if you compare it to the warrior or something like a 2stroke)
Stay on a Honda - you'll never regret it
