Will revving my 250ex up in neutral and dropping it in gear to do wheelies hurt my quad?

in the long run, it might cost you a new tranny or at the very least, an auto clutch. why don't you just put in 1st gear and floor it. that would be much better than bangin into first from neutral. just my opinion.

yeah, the way your describing doing it probably will hurt it. If you just have to pop the clutch for wheelies, put it in 2nd gear, rev the motor to about 1/4 throttle, then as if your going to downshift into first, push down on the shifter. right before it shifts into first you can feels a little "soft spot" with your foot. if you hold your foot on the soft spot and rev the motor and then let up slowly, it will still "pop the clutch" but wont be as hard on the gears, just the clutch but if I were you I'd just start practicing getting it on the back wheels with just the throttle and body english.

It is definitely hard on the clutch and tranny. The question is, why do you need to do it? That machine wheelies easily in first and second just by opening up the throttle.

You don't need to pop the clutch to do wheelies. Just put it in first gear and punch the gas and pull back at the same time. I can pop wheelies in third gear if I get moving and punch the gas and pull back. Practice!!!!

How much do you weigh? How tall are you?

Here is a funny story (kinda).

The other day my wife was trying to do wheelies on her 250EX. She weighs about 100, and is 5'4. She would gas it in first and yank the bars, but it would not do a wheelie! She tried A LOT. It just wasn't happening. She was as far back on the seat as she could be (not all the way on the back of the seat, because she couldn't reach) It just wouldn't wheelie for her. She tried popping the clutch too, it would just spin, no wheelie. The front tires would come up just about 1". Finally, I said: "lets try something".... So, I got on the back. She tried it once and it did a little bit better wheelie. I said "That was wimpy, give it more gas, BUT GET READY TO LET OFF!!!!" Well she guns it really hard, at which time the front end goes WAY up. (meanwhile I remember that post a while back about the passenger losing several fingers by getting them caught between the ground and the grab bar, so I let go. I fall off the back, she was expecting me to LAND UNDERNEATH HER (foolish woman! ) She went a little farther and the grab bar dug a nice little pocket in the sod, which her butt went right into just perfect and she boinged her tailbone a good one. She was ALMOST crying, and she called me several bad words. She ended up going to the chiropractor, and we haven't got the bill yet... Probably could have bought something cool for her quad with that money... Oh well, we shall see if we can get her to try it again

Your local Springfield, Massachusetts Honda dealer has just found a new friend and his name is YoeSeaOh. Honda dealers have built that swimming pool in their backyards from all the gear slamming. Look at all those neat decorations around there pools up close and you know what they are ( auto clutchs, gears). I don't wheelie to much but if my recon can come up a little with just giving it gas when sitting way back on the sit your 250EX should be able to come up a whole bunch. Chet
