HELP ME MY CASE IS JUNK!!!
#1
I was riding my new R today and then I noticed it was dripping something , so i looked at it and quickly relized it was oil. I brought it home took off the chain gaurd and there was a big cracked peace on the bottom of the case where the clutch rod goes in and one of the bolts that holds the case halves together and the gaurd on was missing and the hole it went into was trashed. I am wondering if I can repair this or is it to vital a spot to be repaired. If so where can I get a left side case half for an 88' **CHEAP** I am back in school now so I only work on saturdays. Please help me I am very upsett right now. Thanks, Zeebo.

You can probably get it welded, but may have to split the cases to have it done. Mine was leaking on the bottom where the drain plug is. Turns out the previous owner busted it, and just put a crappy insert in there and used jb weld to hold it in. I had to get the bottom end rebuilt so I sent it to a machine shop and they did the whole thing (rebuild and weld). I would talk to an atv repair shop or a machine shop in your area. You can also check ebay as there are tons of parts for 250 Rs.

I would look for a used case. There are alot of ads for used part places in the back of Dirtwheels, Eastcoast ATV might have something also. But if you wanna take the cheap route and rig it JB WELD works wonders haha.

If it were me, I would take a little JB weld to it until you can get a new one or else have to have a rebuild. JB weld will work pretty well, just make sure you get it mixed right, and put a good layer on there, make sure its real clean when you apply it too, that will help it hold on there better.
Then when its time for a new top end, go ahead and have them split cases, and have that one welded, and have the bottom end gone through, its something that prbably needs done anyway.
There are a couple case halves on e-bay for sale, but they are brand spankin new, and goin pretty high. One sold last week with a couple other parts for something like 100 bucks, shoulda happene then!

I'm pretty sure that if it is an inner case, you have to buy both as a set new, and it'll set you back at least $500. If it is an outer, then you can buy just one. Check out partsfish.com, servicehonda.com for new prices. But I would definately look for a used one first, or have it welded if possible. Also check out why the case was cracked. Did it throw the chain? If so, check out the swingarm bearings and rear axle bearings and make sure they're good so it doesn't throw the chain again.

Well I will shoe my dad tonight and see what he says , his friend is the best welder in the area so I will see if he can help me out. I will go threw the bike while it's sitting to make sure nothing else is bad. I WILL look for a good set of cases , PS do they have to be 88' or can they be any year 250r ????

That's too bad. I know you just traded a guy your 250X for the R. Do you think it was like that when the guy traded it to you or did it happen after the trade? If I thought a guy knowingly screwed me I would have to have a talk with him about covering some of the repair cost.

Congrats Killer, on the new R. Happy to see you finally got your wish. Is this crack on the outer case, or the inner case? I am sorry, but am not sure about where you are talking. I cracked my clutch cover case last year, like a dumbA$$, when trying to put it back on. (didn't have the impeller in right). Well the point is, i had to put in a new clutch cover. It was costly from Honda. I would reccomend you having that guy help you out with the weld. GOOD LUCK man. I hope all turns out well. Oh, and again, congrats on the R. You just purchased an awesome quad, problems or no problems.
