Last night I started my 300ex for the first time since I did the valves. It fired right up but the valve train noise seemed excessive.

I turned the flywheel to the T and set all 4 valves at 4 thousands. This is what U guys and the guys at the honda shop told me to set them at.

Also I got a set of feeler gauges from motion por that are made for the 300 and 400ex's.THe are bent just right.Pretty trick.

ALso I got a 125 main jet.The only mods I have are a K&N filter with outerwear and a modiefied header pipe.Does this sound to fat?

Thanks for any help.

He means too fat of jetting. Some of the early model 250X's and maybe even 300EX's came with at 120 main jet. Mine had the 125 as the stock. It's better to be fat in respects to jetting then running it lean. Make sure that you not only have the flywheel at the T but that you can move both the rocker arms when you adjust the valves.

I know this sounds silly, but are you sure you didn't accidentally have two feeler gauges stuck together, (new gauge sets can be a pain.) A good check if you aren't sure exactly what gauges are in a set is to put calipers on them for confirmation(of both the calipers and the gauge settings.) Mine has .002.003.004.006.008.012.013.02.025. For a period I thought they'd left one of the guages off, the .003 and.004 had glued together sort of with the packing oil. That could easily lead to poor adjustment.

I could move the rocker arms. The problem was.WHen I was setting them I had the rockers loose. They where setting on top of the valve springs and could move up and down.I set them where they can't move any more and now they don't make any noise.

125 is way rich.It idles fine and runs good until 1/2 throttle and then it starts loading up and starts to die.I am going to try a 123.

120 was stock.

Thanks for the help need for speed!
