I am going to check out an 87 250R tomorrow. I saw a couple of messages about an article describing what to check when buying a 250R. Does anyone know what should I check for before buying it? I am not very familiar with Honda ATV but I am with 2 stroke ATV (3 wheeler) since I have an 85 Tri-Z 250 since 1986. He says the fourtrax is in exellent condition (garaged kept) no rust, never raced, never ridden in mud, new plastics, used buy his friends father but he needs to sell it know. He is asking $3000. What should I check for when I go to see it tomorrow (Monday)?

-You should check for cracks in the frame everywhere, bring a flashlight and look all over the frame.

-Move the front tires side to side by hand to feel if the bearings are junk.

-Check out the case down by the front sprocket to look for cracks, holes, repair marks.

-Drive it around and try to get it threw all the gears to see if they are all there.

-Grab it by the grab bar and move it side to side to see if the rear axle bearigns are good.

-See how well it starts and idles, it should start 1st to 4th kik depending on how long it's been sitting.

-GOOD LUCK ! hope it's a good one!

And dont be scared to ask questions, ask a billion of them if you really think you need to!! Ask about problems he has had, to just the little minor problems, to the big ones. Also ask when stuff has last been replaced on it!!

Went to check it out today. What a piece if junk. The frame was painted by they did not a good job. The engine and a few more parts (Footpegs, hoses, etc) were painted while they were installed. You could see the black spray all ove r the frame. The shock shaft was a little bit rusted and it have all maier plastics. The clutch was hard as hell and it looks like the engine was taken apart and probably not in good shape. The guy selling it did not want to let me ride it before I actually buy it, Can you believe this. It looks that I will have to keep looking. My Tri-Z is a thousand times better that that piece of junk that guy was selling me.

There are a million con artists out there. How could this guy think you are going to buy it without test riding it first.
I'm starting to think about selling mine, I'm really dissapointed with the fact that there is nowhere to ride here is South Florida. Anyway, I'm about to go to Dental school and will not have any time to ride at all. I look on the bright side, when I graduate 4 years from now I could buy all the quads I want.

That is the funny thing. He said that he could not start it because he had a bad knee and that his neighbor gets mad because of the noise. What a looser!!
