Heard this a while back, but whats the setup on changing the stock gears front/back when riding in sand - Ive heard only change the front. What is the stock number of teeth? I like the way it feels now, but Ive heard changing this starts screwing up the top end - the top end now if fine- i dont want to loose any on top- wonder if thats possible. let me know what works out there - and what the impact on the power band is ? does getting the CDI box mod help when changing the ratios? Anyone do that?

Thanks !

I would leave your teeth stock unless your only gonna ride in the sand , then maybe go up a tooth or 3 in the rear. Down in the front, or up in the rear=acceleration. Get an exhaust and you will have enough power to be fine.

I totally agree with Quadspeed440ex. You don't need to screw with the gears. Just get a pipe, K and N powerkit, and paddles in the rear and you will do fine in the dunes. That's all I did and I am running very close with Raptors and beating stock Banshees drag racing in the sand. DO NOT change the CDI box. It strains the engine with the extra 1000 rpm's that it gives it.

From personal experience run straight paddles on the dunes, not the V cut unless you trail ride mostly. Straight paddles give a ton more hook up and pull, I ran the V cut till this weekend when I clipped a tree and destroyed the rims (check out my site for pics). Went to town and bought new rims and straight paddles and oh my god the hook up was tons different and better. The only thing I did notice is that the 2nd gear seems to take longer to wind'up then it did with the V-cuts. But my front end spent more time off the ground and I like that If you have the money though go with the above recommendations. I would however do the CDI box as Honda says the engine is good to 12,000 rpms and the CDI only moves it from 9300 to 10300 and advances the timing 5 degrees. Anyway that is my two cents, hope it helps.

Yep, I agree - I bought the K&N kit a while ago - and did the mods with the new needles - and also have a FMF PowerCore - did that over a yr ago - and it does run good - might be able to do some tweaking with the carb a little Im sure - but havnt had time to play around with it.

Anyway, thanks for the suggestions - I think Ill probably leave it alone then - looks like its not worth the trouble - I can already kick some Banshee's around - especially in top end - as long as they are stock - Of course, there is almost no such thing as a stock banshee - but they are out there and when they 'rear their ugly head - Honda thumper runs all over them.

BOy - I cant wait for Honda's new sport quad. I like the Raptor - it looks cool - but Honda just rules -and you know they will come up with something better -
