250R motor
#1
I am looking at getting a new motor for my 86 TRX 250R. I have found one that is a 87 year? I beilve they are the same? Electronic wise, carb, reeds etc? Also when you buy a pipe do you buy i for the year of the frame or the year of the engine? I have a FMF pipe for an 86 but if I buy the 87 motor will I have to buy a new pipe?
thanks guys

There were minor variances between the years, but nothing that would preclude a swap. The timing curves were slightly different in the later model years. There were some small updates done to the clutch lifter, again no biggy and can be updated for about $60. The pipes pretty much will work across all model years. There are some slight differences in the stinger angle, but again nothing that precludes a swap.
So.............what are you doing with the old motor???

Well the motor I am looking at has the upgraded clutch already in it. As well as my 86 motr has it as well. I will be swapping my hinson basket out of my 86 motor into my new motor. i guess I am going to keep the old one for backup or rebuild in the future. It runs fine currently. Just needs some rebuild done in the future. Not sure though are they worth any money stock? One more thing.. The new engine will mount fine to the frame?
thanks
thanks
