Vesrah (sp?) makes rods for quads. They only run about $60 or so. Don't get a rod from Honda. They usualy want to make you order the entire crank and that costs big bucks. I'd order the rod yourself and have the dealer or a local mechanic install it. Or if you have the mechanical ability split your cases take your crank to the dealer or a mechanic and have them put the new rod on it for you. You'll save a lot of money if you do it yourself.

It depends on if you are taking the whole engine in for it to be done or just the crankshaft.
You can save huge chunks of change by just taking the crankshaft assembly.
If you only use this engine for play riding and trails, you can just carry it to a dealer. Most charge for an hour and a half labor if you take just the crank. Keep in mind that only about 1 in 10 dealers even have the tools to do this properly.
If you race, I would ship it to someone who specializes in building fourstroke engines such as Curtis Sparks, TC, Powroll, Four Stroke Tech, or some of the other guys. That way you know that it was balanced. I don't know any dealers who have the capability to do this.
Hope this helps.

Actually guys, this is my daughters quad. (13 yrs old) she will use it in the trails only. maybe some snow. I bought the whole thing for $100, figuring I would be putting some money into it. (seems like engine work only) As for doing the work myelf, I dont feel that confident, being that I need a dependable running engine. (been along time since I split a case)We tend to go deep in the mountains, and dependability is a must. I heard a guy at a dealer say that to rebuild that engine it would cost $1200 !!!! I've been out of the game a few yrs, and thought that was high, but what the hell do I know.
Anyone else ever get a rebuild on a "stock" 250 4 stroke done???
Thanks !
