I have a Warn 2000 and I don't think I could live without it. I ride on old Jeep/Mining trails in Colorado. Many of them are extremly steep with lots of "rockcrawling". I got my winch last Christmas and it has gotten me places I never thought I could go. I usually ride by myself and it makes the ride alot more fun because I don't have to worry about getting stranded out in the middle of nowhere. Sometimes I get to places which are impossible to "ride" up, so I just reel out the winch and pull myself up, I even use it(on my way back down the trail)to winch backwards. You can also pull other less fortunate riders out if needed. I think the Winch is worth the money, a comealong is way too much work, and with a winch, you can steer (if necessary) while you are winching, it's kinda hard to do that while you are cranking on a comealong. Buy the Winch, you won't regret it.

They are not worth 350$. They are worth 1 million dollars!!!! I have a warn 2000 on my grizz and a superwinch 1500 on my warrior and let me tell you, hand's down the best hop-up ever. I have not only pulled myself out many times, but have saved many quads, bikes and even trikes in the muds down in the pines of jersey. Even pulled a rm 250 out of the mud when all you saw were his handle bars popping out. Even if you don't use it, which you will. You will always know that you can officially go ANYWHERE YOU WANT. Especially with a grizz 660, but that's a whole other argument and I am on honda turf now.

Mudbuster, as the others have said the winch is well worth the money. Big confidence builder ,however the warn is worth the extra money .Mine is a A-2000 warn ,and i would not sell mine for $350.00 and mine is 3 yrs.old and has not given one problem at all ,but now should have a new cable. also make a ****** block so you can double block if necessary.

You can get a Warn A2000 for around $250.00. I got a brand new one off of eBay for $240.00, and that included shipping. They are a pretty valuable thing to have out there, and if you do any riding by yourself, they are a necessity. I have the A2000 on my Rubicon, and I also carry a come-along for some situations that a winch may not be feasible.

I agree. Definitely get the winch. I too ride alone a lot and got away with it for many years without a winch. Now that I have a winch I go WAY more places just knowing the winch is there, even though I've only needed it to winch others (so far). I've used it for other jobs like hanging moose meat too. It's like insurance, pay for the peace of mind and accept that you may not need to use it. But when you do need it, man is it great to have!
I bought a cheaper Superwinch because I am planning to sell the bike. I advise get the Warn, I think they are built better.

thanks for the info. but now i can't get the winch because my dad says it will just make me go through mud holes i know i cant get through. and i do that anyway without a winch. so i guess i'll get a comealong. how well do those work besides the more work envolved part?

If all you can get is a come-along, get the crank type boat winch type. They're a lot easier to use, and won't wear you out as fast.

Biggest problem with a comealong is that the cable is usually pretty short. You'll have to carry an extra piece of cable and re-set often. It's hard to set a cable to exactly the right length, but if there is any slack you will just pull it tight by the time you run out of pull. Rope stretches too much to be any use for the same reason. If you're trying to pull up a hill on your own its difficult.
One advantage to a comealong is that you can pull backwards or sideways or any direction you want.
