case saver

Um yeah...... If you leave the case saver on then it won't brake common scence I would think. NACS ESR and a ton of other places make big aluminum case savers get one of those if you are worried. Or you could just buy a good chain and not worry about breakage. I run a stock case saver but i am upgrading to a stronger aluminum model.

Truck,
I am paying the price for not running a case saver. I put a baseball size hole in the bottom of mine from the chain coming off and slapping it. It happened once, and I just wanted to do a repair job that would last one race, but it did it again and knocked the shifter shaft housing completely off. I can stick my fist in the hole now. Honda put them on there for a reason, and they do serve a very good purpose.
Nacs, K&K, and ESR have some very trick looking billet aluminum savers. They're around $30, but that's cheap vs. a $279 case from K&K Racing.
I believe there is something wrong with my R though. I'm starting to think that the countershafts aren't aligned. So what I plan on doing is: Buying a K&K Billet one, then taking it to the shop, tracing the design on a peice of 1/4" steel, cutting it out, and punching holes for the bolts. Then go to the hardware shop and get some bolts.. This way I know the new case won't be busted, and the billet saver won't get scarred up.
You can usually find case savers on eBay too.

I mount a chain guide to all of my swingarm skidplates. This helps keep the chain on the sprockets. I buy the stock Tecate 4 chain guide, then just drill 2 holes into your skidplate and mount it up. A buddy of mine has an '86 that used to through chains all the time, he did this and it fixed the problem.

it doesn't matter what kind of case saver you have...just as long as you have one. I payed the price of not having one and put my chain clean through the left case cover on my 250X..i would go with the billet one for looks and like lonestar said, it's only around $30, Vs. a $300 case...but even if you have to run a stock one..USE IT!!
never run your bike without it!

LonestarBanshee - You mentioned being able to get case savers from Nacs, K&K and ERS. I can't find them o the net. Do you have their web address? I know I need a case saver but have just been putting it off. Last month, I rode with a guy that had a brand new 2002 Raptor and the chain broke the first time out. I have heard since then that he has also brken a new sidewinder chain. Scary. Thanks

Yep, I guess that 02 blue beast has too much HP to keep ANY chain on there. K&K ATV has the billet ones, but I'm not certain they have a Raptor yet... Maybe. Good luck
Oh, on the left side of your screen there will be a scroll bar. On K&K's site, they will have a hyper link to "K&K Products" You will find the billet saver on that link.
