Few 250R questions...
#1
Hey there people, I might be gettin a clean 86' 250R soon.
It has an FMF Pipe, K&N air filter, and a jet kit.
How would this thing hang with a stock Shee or Raptor in a flat dragrace?
(be honest, im not buying it to drag race)
I used to own a 400EX and loved its handling and power.
Will I love this bike too?
How will it be in the dunes? Will it beat a 400 up a dune?
Thanks guys, I know these questions are old, but I want answeres on my specific questions.

If you loved the 400, you're going to really love the R.
Drag race, the Shee will beat you, Raptor maybe; depends on length of race, surface conditions, etc. Wide open, Shee will beat you, Raptor should also.
In the dunes, against the Raptor, no contest, Raptor won't hang. Shee will and will out run you but not by much unless all you're doing is hill-racing.
The R will dune much better than the 400, more power, less weight.

I have heard from some people that a piped and jetted 250r will hang with stock banshees and raptors. I dont know if thats true or not. On a track an R will win, and in the dunes I hear they do good, and you will love this bike. They handle awsome and have good power.
1986 honda trx250r, esr chrome pipe and silencer, douglas rear rims with 400ex tires on them, on the way: just ordered maxxis razr's.

260EX, Like I said in my original post.. Im not buying this bike to dragrace.
Im buying this bike because I
1: Loved my 400EX, and will likely love this too
2: Its clean, awsome looking with its 89' plastic,
3: Was stored for 5 years and looks and sounds to be in great shape
4: I am going to give him only 2600$ for it.
Besides.. Raptor, Shee..... nahh, Ill stick to Hondas.
ps. Thanks for the replys, people!
Also, How does the 86' R compare with the 88-89 R's??

The 88-89 have a longer rod in them which give them a little more low end torque. The longer rod also adds a little more reliability. The crank shaft has a little less of an angle which helps the rod and rod bearings last longer. I did this upgrade on my 86. It takes a Hot Rod long rod kit and a spacer plate. I noticed a big difference in my low end torque.

I drove my friends piped 86 R and my stock 88 fells like it has quite a bit more power across the board, It was not just me that noticed this either another one of my friends who races Dirtbikes rode the 86 then rode mine and said that mine felt like it had more power too. All years are great but i just think 88-89's a better.

Well, I figure that If I dont like the bike that much, I can clean it up and make it look awsome like the last three bikes ive owned, and make at least 500-1000 profit off of it.
Buying it for 2600 in cali. Most 250Rs out here in AZ are going for at least 3700... so im sure that its a win-win situation.
Ill keep you updated..
edit: ps, I dont really think that racing one bike is a good evaluation of that whole year bike.(86) I also raced a piped 86' with my 01' 400EX (sold) and smoked him untill he was winding out his 5th or 6th. Others say that it dosnt matter. It the R is running correctly, it will smoke the 400 start to finish. So, anyway.. I guess ill soon find out how quick this particular 86' is on X-mas day when I look at it.
ill post pics if I get it.
